וַיֹּ֨אמֶר הָעָ֜ם לֹ֣א תֵצֵ֗א כִּי֩ אִם־נֹ֨ס נָנ֜וּס לֹא־יָשִׂ֧ימוּ אֵלֵ֣ינוּ לֵ֗ב וְאִם־יָמֻ֤תוּ חֶצְיֵ֙נוּ֙ לֹֽא־יָשִׂ֤ימוּ אֵלֵ֙ינוּ֙ לֵ֔ב כִּֽי־עַתָּ֥ה כָמֹ֖נוּ עֲשָׂרָ֣ה אֲלָפִ֑ים וְעַתָּ֣ה ט֔וֹב כִּי־תִֽהְיֶה־לָּ֥נוּ מֵעִ֖יר לעזיר [לַעְזֽוֹר׃] (ס)
Le peuple répondit: "N’en fais rien! Car, si nous fuyons, ce n’est pas de nous qu’on se souciera; même si la moitié d’entre nous périssait, ce n’est pas à nous qu’on ferait attention; toi, au contraire, tu en vaux dix mille comme nous. Il vaut donc mieux que de la ville tu te tiennes prêt à nous porter secours".
